Outdoor Pool Set To Hopefully Re-Open Thursday

With the hot and sunny weather beating down on the endless city many people are asking when the Phyllis Dewar Outdoor Pool will be re-opening.

It is a question Councillor Dawn Luhning asked as an enquiry at Monday evening’s meeting of City Council and the short answer is - Thursday.

The Outdoor Pool has been closed since last week due to a water main break on Fairford Street East.

“Just a question about the Outdoor Pool and any idea when it might re-open and what happened if you had a little brief probably for the public?” Councillor Luhning asked.

Director of Parks and Recreation said the pool would likely be re-opened on Thursday once the water main was repaired and the pool was readeied.

“We experienced a water main break on one of the connection lines to the pool so the water had to be shut off to the (Outdoor) Pool, to the Natatorium and the Outdoor Pool as that is (being) repaired,” Blais said.

“It’s sounding like the repair will be completed by tomorrow (July 27th) and following that we have to heat the pool, fill it up again, treat it. So we are hoping to be again open by Thursday,” he said.

While the Outdoor Pool is closed the Indoor Pool at the Kinsmen Sportsplex is open. Additionally the Crescent Park Outdoor Spray Park remains open for those seeking to cool off but the washrooms are closed due to the water main break. For those who need to use the facilities there are temporary porta-potties on-site at the Spray Park until the water main is repaired.
