Free Transit Use Numbers Requested

How well was the free transit service utilized during the 2023 World Para Ice Hockey Championship held in May and June at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.

It’s a question that Councillor Heather Eby asked at Monday afternoon’s regular meeting of Moose Jaw City Council.

“I think it would be good for Council to know how that service was used when an event like that comes. Hopefully over the next couple of years we will have more events come and it’s good for us to know if it’s actually useful or not,” Councillor Eby asked.

During the tournament, held May 28 - June 4, the City offered free bus service for anyone with a valid pass.

All a person would have to do is to show their pass and the could ride the regular route to or from the event.

The free transit ride was seen as a means to help alleviate some of the parking problems around the Moose Jaw Events Centre at the event.

Since the enquiry was both verbal and written the answer will come back in writing at a future Council meeting.
