MJPS Tightlipped About Council Appearance
Whether there were plain clothes officers from the Moose Jaw Police Service (MJPS) officially in attendance at Tuesday afternoon’s Council meeting and why they were there is something the MJPS is not commenting on.
At Tuesday afternoon’s Council meeting there were at least two plain clothes members of the MJPS in attendance.
The question is were they there officially or were they there for personal reasons.
It’s not illegal for MJPS members to attend Council in civilian clothing on personal business or curiosity.
At Tuesday afternoon’s Council meeting there was a large contingent of people opposed to a proposed AI (artificial intelligence) centre on the former Valley View Centre property.
The large anti-AI centre contingent had organized on social media with the organizers asking people to wear clothing emblazoned with their opposition to the proposed centre.

At a previous meeting of the RM of Sherwood anti-AI protestors were noisy and “disrupted” the meeting according to that Council something police disagreed with calling it allowable protest.
Although the MJPS would not state they were in attendance at Council on an official level a source within City Hall - who asked to remain anonymous as they were not authorized to speak to MJ Independent - said there were some concerns about potential problems with the anti-AI contingent.
The source could not state whether or not if the MJPS had been called by Administration.
The proposed AI data centre was not on the agenda at Tuesday’s meeting.
There are rules to attend and speak at Council meetings and as long as individuals in the gallery follow them there usually isn’t a problem.
It should be noted that there were no problems with the anti-AI protestors at the meeting.
