Council Says Nyet To Proposed Police Budget
In what seemingly came as a shock in a 4 - 3 vote a special 2023 Budget meeting of Council voted to send the Moose Jaw Board Of Police Commissioners’ budget request for the Moose Jaw Police Service (MJPS) back to the Commission.
Council asked the Board Of Police Commissioners to look at potential savings and lessen the impact funding the MJPS will have on property taxpayers in 2023.

No New Deal For Tourism Moose Jaw This Year
Tourism Moose Jaw’s request for more funding as well as the City to take over the maintenance and repairs/renovations of their owned tourism booth that sits on leased City land was deferred to 2024 to allow Administration to review the present agreements and look at the options.
Parks and recreation director gave four funding examples in 2023 while at the same time Administration recommended against funding this year.

Council Votes 4 - 3 To Increase Water And Sewer Rates Effective February 1, 2023
You are going to see an increase in your water and sewer (wastewater) rates in February after a 4 -3 vote in favour of the increases.
It is all part of the special Council meeting on Monday to decide the 2023 budget.

Events Centre To Schedule Repayment Of $50,000 Of Interest Free $100,000 "Loan"
Council lauded the success of the Food and Beverage Services at the Moose Jaw Events Centre and heard their $150,000 “loan” guarantee to get the service up and running had begun to reap rewards.
Council also heard as part of their 2023 budget submission the Events Centre would be providing a schedule to re-pay about $50,000 of the “loan”.

Initiative 2023 Budget - Parking Meters On 1st Avenue NW
They previously voted against it in 2020 but continued confusion surrounding the 2019 decision to make lane changes to 1st Avenue NW from Manitoba Street West and Oxford Street West will have Council discussing whether or not to install parking meters on the east side of the street.
The $36,000 cost will be discussed as part of the 2023 Budget deliberations.

Temporary Cash Flow Problems Has Airport Authority Requesting Loan Guarantee Extension
Cash flow problems due to the Canada Revenue Agency auditing the Moose Jaw Municipal Airport Authority’s GST account had the Authority requesting and receiving a further extension on their $1 million runway upgrades loan guarantee.
The Airport Authority is set to receive a $127,404 GST rebate on a cheque they were expecting to receive in the Spring.
