Heritage Advisory Committee

Exec received a report from the August 31st meeting of the Heritage Advisory Committee.

Scott Hellings was appointed chairperson and Dana Bushko vice-chairperson of the advisory committee until August 31, 2018.

The Committee discussed a recent guided tour conducted by Brian Bell of the Moose Jaw Cemetery and Chapel. Concerns noted were the need for new stairs to the chapel's basement and security.

The 100 kg historic bell, once displayed in front of the Moose Jaw Museum and Art Gallery, has been repaired by Sask Polytechnic. The bell is being transported to city storage and still needs to be sand blasted and painted. Fundraising possibilities as well as final location for the bell were discussed.

Bill and Ann Heselton spoke to the committee about a potential heritage award nominee as well as a map project they are working on showing the heritage property locations in the city.

The Committee meets again October 24th at City Hall.

Cultural Diversity Committee

The Committee met on October 1st where they appointed Dalise Hector as chairperson and Nazmia Bengeleil as vice chairperson.

The Committee discussed amendments to their mandate and membership of the Committee itself. Discussion surrounded including a broader spectrum and focusing on marginalized individuals but not being too broad to lose the ability to be effective.

Discussion also centred upon what the Committee hoped to achieve, set goals and how to measure of those goals were met.

Additionally they discussed how to clarify what the Committee can and cannot do.

Consideration was also given for the Committee to form a subcommittee to help support the MOTIF committee.
