2017-18 Warriors: Where Are They Now?

Nick Murray

Last year’s Moose Jaw Warriors were a pretty remarkable bunch. They were the top team in the country before coming up empty against the other top team in the country; the Swift Current Broncos in game 7 of a 7 game series.

Many of the players that made up that historic club have resumed their careers this year as well.

Here we can dive into where, exactly, each of them are playing and just how well they are doing there.

Brett Howden has had the best start of the lot. He fit right into the New York Rangers' system. He is currently playing on the fourth line, with Vladimir Namestnikov. After only five games in blue he is one of the club’s leading point producers with…

Jayden Halbgewachs, who set the Warriors single season scoring record last season, has been biding his time in San Jose’s farm system with the San Jose Barracudas of the AHL. It shouldn’t be long before he graces NHL ice. He’s already on the Barracuda’s top scoring and has 5 points in 4 games.

Defenceman Kale Clague was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings and is right now playing in their farm system in California (not Canada) for their AHL club the Ontario Reign. He plays alongside some solid NHL vets in Matt Moulson, Brett Sutter and Peter Budaj. He’s got 4 points in 4 games and here he is holding the puck netted in his first professional goal. I would imagine that Clague sees some big club time relatively soon as well.

6’8’ Russian powerhouse Oleg Sosunov could crack the NHL on his size alone. The kid is a behemoth. He scored his first pro goal with the AHL Syracuse Crunch, an affiliate of the Tampa Bay Lightning, where former Warrior Brayden Point has become a star. As of yet, that one goal is his only offensive output.

Brayden Burke in playing in the AHL for the Tucson Roadrunners, in the Arizona Coyotes farm system. He’s played in three games and has yet to score. But he plays alongside some pretty popular WHL vets in Tyler Steenbergen, Lane Pederson and Matteo Gennaro. He might not crack the big league rosters as quick as Halby or Clague, but it seems like he will do eventually.

Tanner Jeannot could one day be a dependable fourth liner on an NHL club, but he’s gonna have to put the ice time in first. He was drafted by the Nashville Predators and has laced up for a pair of games for their AHL affiliate, the Milwaukee Admiral…
