If you want to improve your public speaking and leadership skills, have heard of Toastmasters and want to see what it is all about or are simply curious then there is an opportunity for you this week.

On Wednesday at 7 PM at Sask Polytechnic - 600 Saskatchewan Street West - the Big Country Toastmasters Club is holding an open house free to the public.

The open house will be held in the Boardroom and there is signage to help guide you there.

Toastmasters works on a tried and true formula to assist people with their self development.

“Toastmasters provides communication and leadership training programs. Learning to communicate better increases our self-esteem and empowers us to build better relationships. Enhancing family and employment and community communication paths improves the quality of life in each of those areas. Hence our confidence and abilities to serve simultaneously are enhanced,” Lorna Arnold Secretary of the Big Country Club.

Toastmasters program is based upon a group helping others philosophy, Arnold said.

“Toastmasters training is based on a people helping others to learn. At regular meetings almost every speaking project/exercise  is evaluated by a peer. Learning to provide constructive feed back is the most useful tool we learn,” she said, adding “Providing our children, spouses, co-workers etc feedback in constructive ways has phenomenal potential ... and skills that effective leaders use continually.”

Formed in 1962 the Big Country Toastmasters Club has helped many in its 57 years of existence. With Toastmasters is an internationally recognized non-profit educational enterprise which next Fall will have been in existence for 95 years.

In that time it has helped literally hundreds of thousands of people in personal development.

Toastmasters also provide leadership training.

Both theoretical and experiential leadership training is available within the club setting & opportunities to expand that learning to area, division, district and international stage.

Everyone is welcome at the Open House and all meetings are free to guests.

The Club meets most Wednesday evenings at 7 PM during the academic year.
