Major Hunter Jumper Show This Weekend
In the popular nursery rhyme Goldilocks and the Three Bears it took time for Goldilocks to find the right porridge and bed.
The same could be said true of the. a Moose Jaw Exhibition’s Hunter Jumper Show.
Initially a four event circuit the event has morphed from a three drop circuit to this season’s two events.
Mix in the right amount of prize money along with word of mouth advertising and suddenly the Moose Jaw Exhibition ‘s show this weekend is the largest in the province.
By all appearances after years of hard work the Goldilock’s Effect has been achieved.
The final show of the season features 64 horses and close to 60 riders, said show secretary and newly minted Exhibition Company general manager Marci Perrin.
Although not sleeping in Baby Bear’s bed the second and final show of this season is a testament to the hard work over the years and the growth that has occurred.
It’s all part of a strategy that involved cutting the four show series, then a three day series and finally this year’s two show “and try to focus on growing the shows.”
The largest Hunter Jumper show in the province that is happening this weekend is a direct result of the growth strategy.
“It seems to be better received. It just seems to give people a better opportunity whether they are travelling to Alberta, Manitoba or Saskatoon to show as well and it seems our best advertisement is word of mouth from people who have been here,” Perrin said.
The word of mouth growth in the show can be seen in the larger number of participants from Manitoba.
A few years back a small handful attended the show and that number is now over 20 attendees from Manitoba.
“People who come here they go home and spread the word,” she said.
“Some of the positive feedback from the people from Manitoba because they liked the atmosphere because it’s more of a schooling show for young horses and riders to come out.
The timing of the show is critical because most of the big shows are now done in Alberta and Manitoba and people are looking for one final show before calling it a season.
Last year’s final show was held a little bit later in the season and it worked out with having just over 40 horses attend the event.
“When the opportunity arose to have this weekend, we jumped on it, and it seems to have worked. We’ll probably continue with this going forward.”
The show will be held indoors in the Golden Mile Arena so weather will not be a problem.
The show runs Friday October 3rd to Sunday October 5th.
The show gets underway Friday at 9 am, Saturday at 9 am and Sunday at 8 am.
The Public Is invited to attend this FREE event.
