By Robert Thomas

It wasn’t the greatest start but as the game went on the Moose Jaw U18 AAA Canucks took control defeating the White Butte Broncos 4 - 2 on Wednesday evening.

The game which saw the Broncos jump out to a 2 - 0 after two innings of play.

The Canucks comeback started in the fourth inning with the Canucks scoring a lone run.

The fifth inning saw a lead off walk turning into a sprint across the bases and a resultant three runs.

The Canucks ended up with a walk off victory.

Canucks bar catcher Noah Thul said he saw the Canucks victory as good.

“Yeah it was good. We got down a little bit at the start but we battled through. We had some key at bats and I know Hunter Scott had a nice hit and got some runs in and Cam (Beisel) was good on the mound,” Thul said.

Asked if he thought the Canucks were lethargic at the start of the game he said he didn’t.

“I would say it took a little bit to get into it but we prepared the game. We’ll do it every game so hopefully we come out stronger next game. But we got the job done.”

A pitcher for White Butte with a move to pick people off at the bases had an effect on base running.

“”They did have one pitcher with some good pick off moves but for me we are backing out and feeling those runners and making sure we can get back. That’s all we can do “ Thul said.

A major play was Thul rounding third in a potential run for home only to slide and fall down necessitating a swift return to third base.

“Uh yeah I kind of blew a tire there. You know we know the runs are important so we have to run harder. If we stop we’ve got to stop. If we fall or whatever you get up.”

He said he was happy with the win - the Canucks have now won seven out of nine league games.

“It’s unreal. We were kind of doubting at the start of the year with the pre-season rankings but you know we’re proving our point now,” Thul said.

Asked about the Millers coming out to the game he said he was happy to see the the team out showing their support.

Head coach Taylor Elder said the slow start by the Canucks is “something we have to work on for sure.”

“It’s been nice to see our team when we’re down. We can come back from any deficit. One challenge that we’ve had is we issued right after the game here and let’s start from the start and play a complete game,” Elder said.

Once again the Canucks called for a familiar face to be the starting pitcher. And due to low pitch counts Beisal pitched the entire game.

“Cam (Beisal) has been a workhorse for us.”

The win was the fourth win for Beisal in as many starts.

“He isn’t doing anything special. It is special he’s keeping them off balance. He’s varying his speeds and he’s throwing strikes. Baseball is a tough game, but when you break it down, it’s simple you’ve just got to get on base and throw strikes “ he said.

The Broncos fielded a pitcher who had the ability to quickly throw a player out.

“He had a quick move. You had to think about it. They’ve got a really coached team. They do things really well. So their infield is engaged and their pitchers aren’t (afraid to throw the ball). . They’ve got one of the better bat catchers in the league so it hampers or hinders our running game,” Elder said.

The Canucks take on the Broncos in a double header this weekend In Pilot Butte.
