Toilers Need Five Sets To Defeat Falcons

The midnight oil was almost burning as the Peacock Toilers senior boys volleyball team needed five sets to defeat the Cornerstone Christian School Falcons three sets to two sets in Moose Jaw city league action on Wednesday evening.

The game featured a hotly contested set four that saw the lead shift twice in extra points but in the end the Falcons would score two consecutive points to win 29 - 27.

The final set would see a Peacock victory after scoring six points in a row.

Peacock Toilers head coach Jacques Borgeaud was happy with the game.

“It was good. We got everybody in. Everybody got in some quality game time. Which is great after an extended long weekend out there,” Borgeaud said.

“It’s kind of important to get legs moving and arms swinging again. It’s important to get moving as we head forward into our league, then regionals and provincials.”

“We got the win. It’s important to get those wins and (build) our confidence Help our league position as much as possible as we’ve got some tough games coming up. Every result matters,” he said.

Borgeaud said the Toilers are advancing and have for the most part shaken off the injury bug that hit the team early in the season.

“We’re improving day by day. Just like every team in the league is. After some injuries earlier on I think our guys are learning our system and their roles…we’re improving we’re taking the right steps.”

He said despite the length and intensity the game was great to play.

“It was a fun game . It’s always nice to play against Corrnerstone. They scrambled and kept the ball alive. No matter what team they have on there. It’s nice for our guys to feel that pressure.”
