Gronick Doing Well In Long Battle
By Robert Thomas
Jersey number 58 was raised conspicuously over the Greenall Griffins bench on Friday evening.
The number was raised in recognition of the Griffins’s captain Hunter Gronick who suffered a devastating head injury and resultant brain bleed in a game on September 10th in Swift Current. Gronick remains in hospital.
To start the game the Central Cyclones raised their helmets in support by of a call by Hunter’s mother to make equipment - especially helmets - safer in football.

According to Greenall Griffins head coach Marco Ricci that Gronick continues to improve and the team is wishing for the best.
“He’s hanging in there. Let me tell you he will continue to fight. He’s in a battle. He will continue to be in a battle. We’re praying for him all of the time and we jope we’re giving him some strength,” Ricci said.
“It’s been awful because he is our captain. He is the heart and soul of our team. He is a great player. He is one of those guys a team gravitate to and want to be like. If we can have 30 Hunters we would be really well off in this city and country,” he said.
Ricci expressed thanks for asking about the team’s captain.
“Thank you for asking about Hunter it means a lot.”
In a twist of coincidence the total combined final score from Friday evening’s game was 58 the same as Gronick’s jersey number.
