Former Empire School Sold For $800K

The former Empire School has been conditionally sold to a non-disclosed buyer for $800,000.

At a recent special meeting of the Prairie South School Division’s board of trustees the unanimous decision was made to accept an $800,000 offer.

Trustee Mary Jukes did not attend the meeting nor vote having declared a conflict of interest.

Previously the board had declined an offer of $550,000.

All offers for both properties originated from realtor Royal LePage on behalf of an unnamed buyer.

The conditions laid out at the time of the conditional Westmount School purchase were conditional on satisfactory building, mechanical and electrical, roof and sewer inspections, environmental site analysis, a satisfactory building condition report and approval of satisfactory rezoning from the City of Moose Jaw.

It is unknown what the buyer is going to do with the two properties and what sort of zoning changes will be requested from the City of Moose Jaw.

Empire School and Westmount School became surplus assets after the opening of the joint use school on South Hill brought all elementary school students from the public (except Cornerstone Christian School) and Catholic school divisions under one roof.
