15U AAA Canucks End Home Games In Style

After Tuesday evening’s victory the coaches for the 15U AAA Canucks asked the players to forego video games and remain loose and focused for Wednesday night’s game.

It may have sounded like a strange chat with the players but nevertheless it worked.

The Canucks finished off their regular season home games defeating the visiting White Butte Broncos 14 - 0 in a five inning mercy rule victory.

Canucks head coach Darrel Vanbocquestal was extremely happy with how well the team played.

“The boys came ready to play. They were aggressive right out of the gate. They played really good defence. We’ve had a really good week of practice and it really showed the last few nights here,” Vanbocquestal said.

The Canucks squeezed out a 4 - 3 victory over the hungry Regina Wolfpack on Tuesday evening largely by playing aggressively on offence and committing few errors.

A major play was a double play the Canucks turned in the second inning to sit the Broncos down.

“It was exceptional. We’ve been working on it lots. They know what to do. tanner was great coming over the middle with a great flip and execution,” he said.

Another major play was pulled off by Tanner Usher.

Usher hit intro what should have been an easy throw out at first but he nevertheless hustled it towards first base.

A bad throw was missed by the first baseman and a sure out turned into a double as Usher rounded first base and simply kept going.

“Tanner is always hustling. He puts the ball in play and works his tail off. You don’t know he’s a small guy he plays with a big heart.”

The Canucks have been competitive despite early season jitters of a young team. There were only two returnees from last year’s edition that had an incredible 31 - 1 regular season.

“They always want to compete. They always show up to play. We’ve had some really good practices. We are at the tail end of the season and were playing the type of baseball we always wanted to play,” Vanbocquestal said.

He credited the good leadership on the team and the large number of second year kids who have played 15U baseball as key elements to the Canucks’ success.

“The calibre of baseball they’re are playing shows they’re ready and able to go.”
