Despite Loss 18U AAA Canucks Exceeding Early Season Expectations
The Moose Jaw 18U AAA Canucks split a six hour marathon double header on Wednesday evening - a seemingly rare loss as of late.
The Canucks defeated the Swift Current U18 AAA 57’s in a nail biter 7 - 6 finish but they lost the second game on the card - “the game that wouldn’t end” 20 - 15.
The Canucks have now won three out of their last four games.
It s something the team is taking in stride and has the team’s captain Hunter Scott happy about.
“The first game was great. You know we came out firing. The team was working together really, really good. It was a nail biter to the very end. Yeah so I’m happy,” Scott said.
The second game did not have as good of a start for the Canucks. The 57s took control of the game early.
“We did lose but I think we learnt a lot about each other so that’s a good thing,” he said.
Statistically the Canucks have been in an upswing despite the seemingly continuous rain delays.
“We’re definitely on a high note here.”
Where the Canucks are sitting in the standings is not what was expected. The feeling had been the young team would end up dead last but now have the opportunity to potentially make the playoffs.
“We’re really bonding together and working together as a team. We’re all cashing in. The defence is starting to get better. The start of the season wasn’t that good. We were all really selfish but this part of the season we’re all getting better working together,” he said.
Wednesday’s night games were dedicated to seniors who are graduating. The Canucks have five.
The seniors are integral to the team’s success.
“They’ve been awesome. They’ve been leading the rookies all the way. They’ve been great role models. The rookies are definitely leaning on them which is good because our senior group is pretty good,” Scott said.
About the remainder of the season he said the scuttlebutt at the start of the season was for the Canucks to be in the cellar in the standings. It’s not the feeling now.

He said the Canucks are peaking at the optimum time.
“The ultimate goal is to get that provincial spot which is possible at this point.”
