Survey Picks The Avenues As Most Iconic Neighbourhood

A major Calgary real estate firm’s online survey has something that Moose Jaw can be proud of.

In the survey Moose Jaw’s “The Avenues” neighbourhood is the Most Iconic Neighbourhood in Saskatchewan. Three thousand people filled out the survey ranking neighbourhoods in the US and Canada.

The survey places The Avenues as number one trailed by Nutana in Saskatoon and the Cathedral neighbourhood in Regina.

“The Prairies told a quieter story. Wolseley in Winnipeg and The Avenues in Moose Jaw aren't postcard landscapes the way Banff or St. John's are.

They are older residential streets with big trees, human-scale blocks, and a strong sense of community instead. Manitoba and Saskatchewan's version of local character seems to live less in scenery and more in day-to-day life,” the firm’s blog commented.

“Moose Jaw’s older residential avenues show Saskatchewan’s small-city historic character, with broad streets, mature trees, brick houses, bungalows and homes tied to the province’s railway and agricultural growth. The area has a settled prairie-town feel, shaped by big skies, cold winters and early 20th-century prosperity. Its homes and streets capture Saskatchewan beyond the major cities — practical, historic, spacious and rooted in the rhythms of the Plains.”
