It may have just been a controlled scrimmage with the Yorkton Sacred Heart Saints but the Vanier Vikings football team was taking it seriously.

The Vikings kicked off their 2026 football season Friday afternoon foregoing the usual preseason exhibition game but opting for the controlled scrimmage instead.

“We have two quarterbacks who are new to this level of football so it helps,” Tkachuk said, adding it gave the coaching staff the opportunity to give guidance in the huddle.
This year’s Vikings consists of many returning regulars with few graduating players.
The Viking’s also have one female on the team.
Tkatchuk would not guess on how good of a team the Vikings would be this season.
The Vikings have one more pre-season exhibition game against the Delisle Rebels next week before kicking off the regular season.
