League Geared Up For Season

The final finishing touches fell into place for the Kinsmen Moose Jaw Minor Football Association as the 2026 season kicked off on Saturday.

For 200 players ranging from the U8 Razorbacks to the U14 age groups the practice and hard work received their initial test.

For association board member Steven MacAulay the 2026 season stacks up well.

“The numbers are about 200 for the whole league. We do have a pretty good turnout for our U14. In U12 we’re lacking a little bit in the size and the numbers so we downgraded to two teams. But we have two strong teams,” he said.

There is growth in other areas.

“Our U10 category is stronger than ever. We have more numbers than we have than other categories,” MacAulay said.

Asked if it was not a growth year, but rather just a sustaining year, he said other than the glitch in U12 things were positive.

“We just didn’t have enough kids in that U10 moving up this year as in other years. And we had a lot leaving U12 to I14. Do the U14 numbers are strong. The U10 numbers are strong so continuing we will grow.”

Being part of the minor football brings multiple benefits.

“Number one you get some exercise. Number two you learn all about teamwork. You learn all about teamwork. And number three you are going to have a lot of fun,” he said.

About losing most Friday nights to the high school program MacAulay doesn’t see it as a problem.

“It’s for community involvement. We’ve been making it more of an entertainment night with our Friday and Saturday night games. Now getting the high schools out and involved in our Friday Night Lights games you get more to do in the community.”
