Lions Lunch On Ravens
It was an easy outing for the Moose Jaw Lions as they defeated the Weyburn Ravens 52 - 0 in U12 division play in the Moose Jaw Minor Football League.
The Ravens seemed ill prepared at times when the mighty Lions roared.
The victory moves the Lions to a 2 - 0 record while the Ravens fell to 0 - 2.
“I thought things went well. I think our guys played hard out there. This is the second time we played Weyburn in two weeks so I think there is a little bit of familiarity there,” Kellyn Bollinger Lions head coach said
The Lions defeated the Ravens 54 - 0 in week one action.
“The results (last week) were very similar. We moved some guys around but the results were very similar,” Bollinger said.
Despite the crushing wins he still feels there is room for improvement on the Lions.
“Overall the kids played really well. When we’re on defence nine guys are running for the ball. On offence the guys are out there trying to make blocks so I think we’re doing the right thing.”
Asked an out the weak point in the Lions he took a minute to think and then replied “I think we got to get our kicking team figured out. We made some kicks but we need to get some blocking figured out as it seems half of them are getting blocked.”
Area the lions want to work on is when it comes to passing.
Bollinger admitted the Lions are run greasy and they need to do more passing.
“The past few years, we had a very talented, throwing quarterback and this year we still need to work on it a little bit,” he said, adding “It will come in time.”
Bollinger said he would like to congratulate the Weyburn team for having a good coaching staff and despite being a young team they had potential.
“ I know they’ve been working through getting it rolling…they’re a good group of coaches to coach against.”
