Moose Jaw Exhibition Adds Final Entertainment

With the Moose Jaw Hometown Fair set to open in less than a week there is still more free entertainment to be announced.

The Hometown Fair kicks off the evening of June 20 with the traditional parade on Main Street.

The Hometown Fair hours are June 21st 3 pm to midnight, June 22nd noon to midnight and June 23rd noon to 10 pm.

SAFARI JEFF

An old favourite, which has been here before will be Safari Jeff.

Safari Jeff, who has been at the Hometown Fair in the past, is returning with his North American tour called “Animology”.

During his three daily shows Safari Jeff will bring his educational event where he will bring his interactive live show which features a variety of lizards and rare reptiles from around the world. The shows run between 30 - 40 minutes each and will be in the Golden Nugget Building.

“It is more of an educational event. Jeff brings out the reptiles and lizards and speaks about their habitats and the creatures themselves,” Moose Jaw Exhibition Company general manager George Fowler said about the return act which in past engagements has been highly popular.

“There is the opportunity to have a free meet and greet with Jeff and the snakes and lizards, just bring a camera,” Fowler said.

PAINTLESS PAINTBALL

If you want to shoot it out with your friends a new free event this year is the paintless paintball.

Instead of liquid the event uses chalk to mark where your shot hits.

The event is free and will be held in the Convention Centre.

There will be some restrictions on who can participate with the very young not recommended.

HASBRO TOY TESTING

New this year and “an event we really went after” is Hasbro Toy Testing coming to the Hometown Fair, said Fowler, adding “Moose Jaw is the first stop for the tour over the Summer which will include only 10 centres. It is great to have this come to the Hometown Fair.

As part of a cross Canada testing tour Hasbro will be making the stop in Moose Jaw where people will be able to test out some old Hasbro standards as well as new toys yet to hit the market.

Some of the toys being tested are Nerf and Beyblade toys.

MOUNTED SHOOTING

For those who like to watch horseback ridership along with markmanship need to head over the Golden Mile Arena as the Hometown Fair is featuring mounted shooting.

This will be a competiton event with riders traversing the arena and then using blackpowder loaded weapons - there is no actual bullet they shoot blanks - break balloons.

“This is a noisy event,” he said.

It is also a competitive event with the event kicking off on Saturday at 1 pm. The event also runs a Saturday evening competiton commencing at 7 pm.

On Sunday there will be the final competition starting at 1 pm.

This event has been at the Hometown Fair in the past.

The Moose Jaw Hometown Fair will also feature the 4H show and sale on Saturday and Sunday.

And the Hometown Fair will also go back to its beginnings in 1884 when the first fair happened.

“It is a pretty good lineup and we strive to create a show which is family oriented,” Fowler said.

Other acts previously announced at the 2019 Hometown Fair include Performance Artists with their lively and colorful costumes and acts, the K9 Stars Dog Show and Motorcycle Stunts plus of course the Midway.

Admission to the Hometown Fair grounds is $12. Wrist bands allowing fairgoers entry plus all the rides you can in one day are $45 or $85 for all three days.

The wrist bands are the most economical way to attend the Hometown Fair if you are into riding the Midway. To see where they may be purchased click the link.

To help you save a few dollars MJ Independent is giving away four one day entry and ride wrist bands to one lucky reader. For details of the contest click here.
