Agility Trial And Fun Run Saturday and Sunday

If you like dogs and you love seeing them being put through their paces then the next couple of days are likely puppy heaven for you.

The Moose Jaw Dog Club is putting on a sanctioned Agility Association of Canada (AAC) agility trial.

The event will take place at the Golden Mile Arena at the Moose Jaw Exhibition grounds Saturday from 10 am with the trials wrapping up at approximately 3:30 pm.

On Sunday there will be a fun day for Moose Jaw Dog Club members where dogs will run agility routes but in a non-competitive event.

The Sunday event runs 10 am to 3 pm.

The trial will see dogs go through tunnels, over obstacles, through hoops and weave through stakes to name just a few.

“This trial is focusing on the starters group. Starters is one of three categories recognized by the AAC,” Allison Rain with the Moose Jaw Dog Club said.

Rain said the trial was limited to starters “just to create a welcoming friendly atmosphere for beginner dogs and their new owners.”

There are 30 exhibitors in the show Rain said adding exhibitors often have more than one dog entered into the trials.

This is the second year the trial is being held and like last year inaugural trial the number of exhibitors is capped at 30 exhibitors.

“They’ll be going through actual agility courses,” she said.

The agility course is a highly popular event for spectators and many people come to watch. The event is FREE and open to the general public.

At noon there is going to be a free presentation by West Star Tack about Omega supplements for dogs. The presentation is open to all dog owners not just members of the Moose Jaw Dog Club.

Asked if members of the general public may pet any of the dogs she said it is possible but a person has to get the owners permission before doing so.
