Hidden Gems To Consider Eating Downtown - Part One of a Series

By Robert Thomas

To help visitors and locals decide where to eat when visiting the Downtown MJ Independent visited a series of restaurants.

These are restaurant visits on our own dime and they are not provided for free or sponsored by the restaurants mentioned.

These are the places I personally eat at and recommend. We will try to feature a new establishment every couple of weeks.

These are restaurants located in the Downtown that in my opinion offer decent food at a good price. Today’s restaurant is Casino Moose Jaw’s lounge.

Casino Moose Jaw Lounge

Located at 21 Fairford Street East the lounge is located in the back (far west wall) of Casino Moose Jaw’s.

If you are staying in the Temple Gardens Hotel and want a cheaper snack or meal than can be purchased in the hotel’s restaurant this might be the place for you.

If you are driving you can park for free in the Casino’s portion of the parkade. Just make sure you are past the parking arm and in the Casino’s parking area otherwise you may be ticketed.

You do not need a membership or be gambling to eat or drink here.

The Casino’s Lounge offers decent food at a decent price.

Not much on the menu exceeds $20 including taxes.

The lounge is not family friendly so all guests must be 19 years of age and older.

It also means if you chose you may order a beer, cocktail or a glass of wine with your meal.

The lounge is noisy and is not a place if you want quiet ambiance and the wine is either red or white with a screw cap. There is no cork to sniff.

Food make be ordered to go and eaten off premises but alcoholic drinks must be consumed on premises.

The lounge is well known for its hot dog with raw or fried onions for $5.00 including tax. You can combo it with a Caesar salad for $11.10 including tax.

Tuesday night is a good night to show up as chicken wings go for $11.10 including tax per order.

Another popular item is the special burger of the month that comes with fries for $20 including tax.

Finally there is a great all day breakfast offered for $12.50 including tax.

The restaurant is disability accessible along with the wash rooms. The parking lot has plenty of convenient parking for disability placarded vehicles.

The lounge is highly popular with spa guests who want to save a buck while at the same time not having to venture too far.
