Bridge Area Now Closed To Pedestrians As A Safety Measure

If you wondering what the safety barricades are up for in the Wakamow Valley on 7th Avenue SW they have been raised as part of the City’s repair of the 7th Avenue Bridge.

The bridge, which has been closed to vehicle traffic since 2015 due to ice damage, was given the go ahead to be repaired at the February 22nd Special Council Meeting. Council approved the unbudgeted repairs costing $832,032 . The 7th Ave SW Bridge had been a major source of tension between the City and two local residents who hired lawyer David Chow in their quest to have the bridge repaired or replaced.

With the work approved the City has now erected safety barricades in the area closing access to the Wakamow Valley Authority park from 7th Avenue SW.

The barricades have been erected by the contractor Harbuilt Construction of Moosomin, SK to protect the public. The barricades will remain in place until the project’s completion to protect pedestrians. The estimated completion date is June 30th.

The contractor and the City will be meeting later this week to discuss the project and timetable for the bridge’s repair.

During construction there is no pedestrian access to Wakamow Valley/Great Trail from the 7th Avenue SW bridge. The City of Moose Jaw and Wakamow Valley Authority recommend using 9th Avenue SW to access Connor Park, and Fourth Avenue SW to access Wakamow east of Seventh Avenue SW.
