In his closing remarks, MJPS Chief Robert Davis Johns spoke about the career that these four individuals have chosen to pursue.

“This is a very special day for these recruits,” says Chief Davis.

“It marks the end of one journey and the beginning of another. The hard work of these individuals got them here today to be sworn in as a member. Now the new journey begins – one that will see them serve Moose Jaw with professionalism, integrity, and their desire to keep our great City safe”

Brody Baumann, 25, was born and raised in Moose Jaw, SK, and graduated from Central Collegiate Institute. Following his graduation, Baumann worked various jobs before graduating from Lethbridge Polytechnic (formerly Lethbridge College) with his diploma in Correctional Studies in 2023.

Following college, Baumann moved to Regina and started as a correctional officer at the Regina Correctional Centre.

Baumann says that he has had the itch to become a police officer ever since he was a kid.

“I remember the school resource officers coming to our classrooms to give presentations, and I thought it was one of the coolest jobs ever, and I immediately looked up to those officers,” says Baumann..

“I have always wanted to be a positive role model and someone that others can look up to, and I know this career will be the best place to do that. I love the community of Moose Jaw, and I am ready to work to help keep it safe,” adds Baumann.

Baumann is looking forward to the challenges that come with the Saskatchewan Police College.

Hailing from Dalmeny, SK, 23-year-old Zachary Martens is a newcomer to the policing world.

Martens is a former student-athlete who played basketball at Briercrest College for five years. He graduated in April 2025 with a degree in business.

Martens is excited to be sworn in as a Moose Jaw Police Service Constable.

“It is the end of a long process in which you are going through all of these steps, all in the hope of being hired,” says Martens.

“So, finally finishing these things and being hired and now sworn in is very cool. It also signals the start of a new journey with the Police College starting in January. That prospect is exciting to me.”

He is excited for the next step, which is the lengthy training course at the Saskatchewan Police College.

“I am excited to learn what it takes to become a Police officer. I am excited to do it with this class. We are going through it together, and I am excited to become closer to my new coworkers as well as my classmates,” adds Martens.

Shae DeMarce, 26, is originally from Brooks, AB, but moved to Saskatchewan at a young age.

DeMarce attended and graduated from Central Collegiate Institute. She then went on to the University of Regina and is currently working on her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work.

In addition to going to university, DeMarce is a correctional officer at the White Birch Remand Unit and the Regina Provincial Correctional Centre.

She says that she is honoured to be a female role model to the younger generation.

“Seeing the number of female officers in Moose Jaw grow from just a few to over ten was also something I always wanted to be a part of,“ notes DeMarce.

“I have a passion for safety and accountability and am excited to work alongside a strong, like-minded team. I loved growing up in Moose Jaw and think it is the perfect size to raise a family and work as a police officer,” adds DeMarce.

She is excited to be sworn in today, as it makes everything feel more final, and this is something I have worked towards for years. Finally, our last recruit joining the MJPS is Aman Rizvi, 25. Rizvi was born and raised in Sri Lanka for the first few years of his life. He moved to Canada in 2018 with his mother and siblings. He attended and graduated from Central Collegiate Institute in 2019.

Rizvi was introduced to policing after attending a seminar at the RCMP Heritage Centre. That led him to attend Medicine Hat College to complete his Criminal Justice Diploma in 2023.

“I have always imagined myself working within the community service industry (Policing, Army, CBSA, Peace officers, Sheriffs, etc.), says Rizvi. After I found out about the seminar at the RCMPheritage center and attended it, I immediately felt drawn to the policing side of things.”

Rizvi concluded by saying that he looks forward to being in a school setting at the Saskatchewan Police College and is excited to meet new people and start training.

Baumann, DeMarce, Martens, and Rizvi will now prepare for the Saskatchewan Police College.

Their 21-week training program will begin on Monday, January 5, 2026. They will then graduate from the police college in July 2026.
