Maric’s Debut Spoiled

The struggle continues for the Moose Jaw Warriors and the Saskatoon Blades aren’t necessarily a team that’s going to make things easy for them.

They’ve got a better record than the Warriors, they’ve beaten them once already and they’ve allowed less goals than any other team in the league.

To put it bluntly, the struggling Warriors were in deep water, at the SaskTel centre, on Friday night.

The first period was razor-close.

Justen Maric, getting his first start in net, as a Warrior, held his own.

He faced nine shots and carried a shutout into the locker room.

Unfortunately, Moose Jaw only posted 6 shots and also didn’t score.

Maric has been having an outstanding season on a really dominant Battlefords North Stars team (they’re the best team in the SJHL, by a long shot, with 44 wins and only 4 losses), considering the Warriors recent goaltending woes it was high time he got a call up.

The Blades got to him in the second though, halfway through the period Tanner Molendyk beat him, courteous of a nifty little pass from Connor Roulette.

After two periods, Maric was holding up well though, just one goal allowed.

However, the Warriors offence is struggling too right now and only managed 13 shots up to that point, and zero goals.

The floodgates opened in the third with the Blades Egor Sidorov scoring twice, his 36th and 37th, respectively.

Atley Calvert scored his 35th, denying Austin Elliot the shut out.

Blake Gustafson also scored for the blades, making the final score 4-1.

The woes continue for your Moose Jaw Warriors.

They’re hosting the Prince Albert Raiders tonight.
