Rhino’s Ramblings - Kudos To Parks And Rec

By Robert Thomas Opinion/Commentary

Traditionally Moose Jaw outdoor pool and now spray parks often close just before the long weekend in September.

The pool due to the lack of lifeguards as they head back to university. The spray parks is one. I’m thinking why especially with the warm weather we’re experiencing right now..

And then it seems that the city gets underneath a heat wave that extends into the month of September.

There is no relief from blazing heat as the city shuts down assets, which cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to construct.

It’s all appears to be silliness.

But not this year.

With the temperature going to be in the +30s or high 20s during the first week of September the city has elected to keep the spray parts open until September 7th.

Common sense prevails - at least in one department of City Hall - someone in Parks and Rec seems to be thinking.

No, I can’t say whether this would be taken up a lot of people to get out to the spray parks, but I’m hoping it does.

Here’s an opportunity to get the kids out.

Have a fun time and be cool when it’s going to be really hot outside. It’s all thanks to somebody at City Hall thinking on their feet and taking advantage of the situation.

Where they get a few dollars to run the parks for this week I don’t know, but really when you think about it does that really matter?

Let’s open them up for the kids and those who maybe wish they were kids who would like to go out and just sit under the water and cool off you know seniors like me.

Perhaps daycares would like to take the kids down there for a nice cool time. I don’t know.

The opportunity is there this year.

That’s what the city needs somebody to grab the bull by the horns and take advantage of the situation for the benefit of all. A common sense revolution.

I actually called City Hall to the parks and rec department to congratulate the people at the top for their innovative, thinking when it comes to this one.

I’m a person known to criticize them all the time, but when it comes to thanking them for doing the right thing, I think it should be the other way as well. I should be congratulating them.

It’s really great to see something happening positive at City Hall that involves people thinking on their feet and taking advantage of the situation in a positive manner.

A move that could help a lot to cool off.

Well, done to Parks and Recreation.
