Track Club Finishes Up Indoor Season On A Positive Note

This past weekend was a good weekend for the Moose Jaw Rotary Track and Field Club.

In the fourth and final indoor meet of the season - the Saskatoon Indoor Games - the club managed to pick up more medals at a meet. but it was also a time to reflect upon pre-COVID normality.

With Covid related restrictions the team had been suffering due to the inability to hold meats and a drop in overall interest.

Since the announcement of lifting restrictions, the club has been gaining momentum every year since the pandemic restrictions.

“Taken whole to get people back out after the pandemic our numbers are really healthy this year,” coach Scott Mitchell said.

Team wise the Rotary Club earned two bronze medals in team medley - bronze in the U16 girls and a bronze in the U18 boys.

Chris Gagne had a golden performance in the U16 60M where he won the gold medal.

In the U16 200 M event Gagne was able to capture of bronze medal.

But Gagne wasn’t the only member of the Rotary Track Club to shine on the weekend.

Jorja Grajczyk earned a bronze medal in the U16 medley as well as a bronze in the 60 m U18 hurdles

Ella Mack won a silver medal in the U16 girls 1200 M.

The season overall was described as optimistic and full of future growth and positive indicators.

During the season athletes managed to set eight club records.

Ademide Adewupini was how to become a member of the Team Sask excellence program.

The club this year had over 38 members with 22 athletes actively participating in competitions.

The difference in the numbers are people who simply train for other sports, or for the fun of it.

“We want them to be racers not just help for other sports,” Mitchell said.

Now with the indoor season over and move it to the outdoor track and field season.

During his part of the year the majority of athletes from the Rotary Club rejoin their school’s track and field program.
