Bulldogs Stop Chargers
The first half of play showed very little difference between the Bulldogs and the Estevan Chargers.
The score at half time only gave the Bulldogs a slim five point advantage.
But then the momentum swung to the Bulldogs as their defence punished the Chargers.
In the end the Bulldogs defeated the Chargers 42 - 15.
Bulldogs head coach Josh Sigurdson said he was extremely happy with how the game played out.
“It was the most complete team effort we put in all season. I couldn’t be prouder of the kids. We asked them to come practice this week and work hard they all did. They all showed up,” Sigurdson said.
“There was some big stops. There were some players that made big plays that haven’t had the chance to shine yet. Now they know what it’s like to play a good football game.”
He pointed out many key players on the defence including Mirabella Leroux.
Mirabella Leroux from the Bulldogs saw her fair share of action in the Bulldogs defence. The grade six student racked up a large number of tackles with her name seemingly continually being announced over the loudspeaker system.
“I just saw them and I just hit them,” Leroux said when asked what was the key to her success in the game.
She described the feeling of making hits on the field in a single word - good. She might be timid off the field but on the field is a different matter.
Leroux said it all came down to what she learnt at practice. Skills that have developed a lot.
“I learnt just ti tackle properly. To get down low and tackle them by the legs.”
Sigurdson said “it was a complete effort by the defence. Obviously, we talked about Mirabella playing all over the field but like Tanner Vance showed up, Emerson, Andre showed up and Brady Gadd. All the usual suspects… I don’t think there’s a single player that didn’t have a good game on the defence.”
“We bent but we didn’t break. It was good.”
Asked about the second half Sigurdson said they told the players to shut in the Chargers and win.
The offence was no slouch, he said.
“ I think the old fans had their best game of the season. Liam Adrian was flinging balls like nothing. Deacon MacDonald had a great game so did He ry Church.”
“Our O line played fantastic. The blocks were all there and executed perfectly.”
Sigurdson said it’s the best possible scenario for the team heading into the playoffs. The team knows they can win and they know how hard they can play.
