Colts Gallop Past Tornadoes

The Peacock Tornadoes made their first home appearance under the lights on Friday night versus the Swift Current Colts.

But a big scoring play by the Colts took the wind out of the Tornadoes as the Colts galloped on to a 34 - 0 victory.

Tornadoes head coach Connor Taylor said it was one of those nights where despite the loss the team put in a good effort.

“It was a great game. Swift came to play and we had a great game out here,” Taylor said.

For the first quarter and into the second the Tornadoes held against the Colts.

A 60 yard passing play to the Colts’ Drayden Bergeron at 9:12 of the second quarter not only put Swift Current on the board but it massively grabbed the momentum for the visitors.

Jensen Larochelle would take a hand off in for a Swift Current touchdown at 3:58 of the second quarter further sapping the Tornadoes.

“It was a great game. It’s just a few plays don’t go your way and that’s football sometimes,” he said.

“Swift came out to play today and they had a great game.”

The team will be working on the little things as they gear up for next Friday evening’s showdown against last year’s provincial champions the Central Cyclones.

“We play as a team every week and we focus on the little things to get better.”

The Tornadoes are a young team and still learning.

“A lot of our students are young so we are just learning and teaching and getting better.”

The rest of the season is devoted to “just playing football. It’s such a beautiful day to be out and just playing football.”
