Presenter Questions Council’s 4 PM Start Time

By Robert Thomas

The move to 4 pm meetings is just not resident friendly a presenter told Council.

Speaking just prior to her presentation about property assessments and how she does not see them as fair to business property owners Kristy Van Slyck commented how the now earlier starting Council meetings prevented people from showing up.

“Four PM on a Monday is very hard for the business community to come out and show their support,” Van Slyck told Council.

“I do know why you changed this before. I think it would be a good recommendation to go back to at least 5:30 pm,” she said.

It needs to be noted Council changed to an earlier 4 pm meeting time as they were waiting after an earlier meeting for close to two hours between meetings.

The discussion at the time saw the extended break until the regular Council meeting as a waste of Council members’ time.

For her part Van Slyck said the 4 pm start prevented supporters and curious business owners from attending.

“About 30 people contacted me prior to the meeting and they are not able to make it.”
