Engineering To Look Into Missing Pedestrian Timer

The case of the missing timer for pedestrians at the intersection of Coteau Street West and 9th Avenue SW was asked about during the Enquiries portion of Monday afternoon’s regular meeting of Council.

On several of the pedestrian crossing control signals in the community there is a timer indicating how much time there is for pedestrians to safely cross the street.

About a week ago, after work was done on the traffic controls at the South Hill intersection, the pedestrian timer quit working.

“I’m just curious why the timer is no longer there when it is still at the side of the walk symbol? Not only were pedestrians using it but vehicles were using it because then they would know how long that light was going to stay green,” Councillor Doug Blanc asked.

Director of engineering Bevan Harlton said it would take some further sleuthing to find out what happened to the missing timer.

“It sounds like something I’m going to have to follow up operationally. I can provide a brief response back at the next Council (meeting) and look into it and see if it needs to be fixed,” Engineer Harlton said.
