Vikings Silence Steelers

The battle of the trenches lit up to end Saturday’s games as the Vikings took on the Swift Current Steelers.

After grinding out a last minute victory last week the Steelers were hoping to do the same with the tough Vikings squad.

But it was not to be as the Vikings defeated the Steelers 48 - 0.

Vikings head coach Brock Montgomery said he was happy with the result.

“It was good. We just wanted the team to finish off the regular season the way they started,” Montgomery said.

The game featured the Vikings moving players around from their regular positions.

“We moved a few kids around and played a few different positions tonight. We were able to get some looks for our playoff run. Yeah it was a good night,” he said.

“We wanted to move some kids around so they got some experience trying some different things out that we might do in playoffs to give a different look here and there.”

The Vikings finished first in the regular season.

“It’s good (to finish first) but in the end you get to play the fourth placed team going into the playoffs but it doesn’t matter the playoffs are a new season. I’m sure everyone is tuning up to be where it matters.”

With two weeks to go in the season Montgomery said the Vikings will be working on fine tuning such as blocking, running, taking the yards that are there and trying not to do too much. Defensively it’s all about being gap responsible and doing your job.
