U15A Mavericks Lose Game Two 2 - 1

Mavericks come close to claiming provincial crown by Series Sweep

Playing in front of a packed Bert Hunt Arena the Moose Jaw Carpet One U15 A Mavericks put on a show but fell just shy of sweeping the best of three provincial championship series against the visiting Western Prairie Thunderbolts.

The Mavericks played an aggressive game challenging the Prairie Thunderbolts right until the last few seconds.

Down by a score of 2 - 1 the Mavericks pulled goaltender Blair Bennett with just under two minutes left in the game.

With 33 seconds left in the game the Mavericks called a 30 second timeout to regroup. The Mavericks managed to keep the puck in the Prairie Thunderbolts end of the ice but could not score the equalizer.

The Mavericks’ loss ties the best of three series up at one game a piece.

The third and deciding game will be played this coming Sunday March 29th at 12 pm in Macklin.

Both teams met in the provincial final last year with the Prairie Thunderbolts winning the series 2 - 1.

The Prairie Thunderbolts scored the opening goal in the first period.

At 9:58 Emry Gumpinger scored assisted by Emeryn Brown and Samantha Cowie.

The Mavericks got on the scoreboard at 2:01 of the second period when Madeline Hopkinson scored assisted by Taya Babich.

The Prairie Thunderbolts would win the game on a goal in the third period at 6:08 by Brier Lonnberg. Assists went to Tenleigh Schachtel and Anya Cummings.
