Vikings Rebound In Second Half

For most of the season the U14 Vikings have seemed to be invulnerable. No team can make a dent in their armour.

That is until they ran into the U14 Raiders.

In their second matchup of the season on Saturday the Raiders came out hard and severely tested the Vikings.

The first half saw what was at times a vulnerable Vikings just hanging on to a tenacious Raiders team.

Then the second half came along and the Vikings found their oars and managed to row to a 33 - 14 victory over the Raiders.

“It was a battle. It was a tale of two halves we were a little sloppy maybe overthinking things in the first half,” U14 Vikings head coach Brock Montgomery said about the game.

It was a game Coach Montgomery admitted could have gotten away from the so far undefeated Vikings in the first half.

He said once the Vikings settled in that the game started to go both ways - defence and offence - the team had wanted.

“They’re good. The Raiders are a good team. We weren’t surprised by anything they were doing …the boys just had to step up,” Montgomery said.

Asked what he saw as the difference between winning and losing Montgomery said it came down to willpower.

“The difference between the first half and the second half is in the first half we were fortunate to come out tied. And I guess getting the ball in the second half and being able to score right away kind of turned everybody’s attitude no it swings a little bit of momentum your way.”

“Things just picked up from there,” he said.
