Strueby Awarded Chancellor’s Scholarship

Hard work and high marks has earned a Vanier Collegiate student a major scholarship from the University of Regina.

Walker Strueby has been awarded the Chancellor’s Scholarship for 2026. The award is worth $46,000 over four years and there are 14 recipients.

The scholarship is applied over four years. Ten thousand dollars per year for tuition and the remaining $6,000 pays to live in the dorms in the first year.

Recipients must have had an average of 95 percent or higher and have had community involvement.

“I’m very, very grateful and honoured to get the award. It was great to accept the award with my family a couple of weeks ago,” Strueby said.

The scholarship is an academic and not an athletics scholarship - Strueby is involved in multiple sports at sports an in the community.

Strueby said his dad, Ward Strueby - superintendent at the Holy Trinity School Division was excited about the award.

“He was very pumped. I found out in an email while I was watching Team Canada hockey game over the break in the Olympics. As soon as I found the email I gave him a call. My dad and grandparents came to the reception in Regina with me.” Strueby said.

Walker Strueby is a student at Vanier Collegiate in Moose Jaw who is dedicated to athletics, entrepreneurship, and community involvement.

He owns MJ Auto Detailing, which he started in July 2025 and has completed over 100 vehicles since.

Walker has competed in basketball, volleyball, and track and field throughout high school, earning a provincial bronze medal in volleyball and serving as co-captain in Grade 12.

He is actively involved in his school community and has refereed high levels of hockey for seven years, while volunteering as a referee coach for younger officials.

He plans to pursue Secondary Education.

Strueby said he is thankful for those who helped him earn the scholarship.

“I just want to thank my teachers at Vanier (Collegiate) and my friends and family of being so supportive and helping me to get to this point. I would like to thank Robert Hawkinson and Carson Ferris for being my references for the scholarship. Without the teachers this wouldn’t be possible.”
