Sidewalk Days Re-focusing on Entertainment
The dates for Moose Jaw Sidewalk Days 2018 are set and this year's event looks like it may be the beginning of a fresh take on the city staple. July 5-7
The event's organizers are looking to make this year's a more entertainment-oriented one.
"We have 28 acts booked" said Jacki L'Heureux, Executive Director for Tourism Moose Jaw, and Chair of the Sidewalk Days Committee, "plus many more buskers on the way!"
Buskers, Jacki claims, are going to be more prevalent at future Sidewalk Days events.
"We are working on more "entertainers" for the future. There is a whole process we need to work on, so hopefully for next year. "
Jacki wants the event to take a few lessons from the Regina Fringe Festival, which is known for live theatre, music and circus style street performances, like balancing acts, extreme juggling, sword swallowers, snake charmers and magicians and stuff like that.
"One of my employees, Tamara, knew someone involved with the Fringe, and it was a solid place for us to start - they have it mastered" Jacki said.
Some of the performers you can expect to see at this year's festivities are: Radio Silence, Adam the Gunslinger, Johnny 2 Fingers and the Deformities, The Tilted Kilts, The Bromantics, West of Mabou, Dale Mac, Annie MacLeod, Underclass Exile, Sommerfield School of Dance, Sonic Eggs, Cobra Cheerleading and Killjoy
This year's event will also be home to the Deja Vu Cafe Songwriters Showcase; where Moose Jaw's up-and-coming music sensations can put their songs on the line for an opportunity to win cash prizes of $500, $300 and $200 and recording time with Jared Robinson at Nebulus Entertainment.
Vendors are not quite fully booked yet, so for anyone looking for a spot it's still possible.
"We have more than 60% of vendor booths booked and paid for" she said.
They will be searching for volunteers, as well.
