Free Fishing This Coming Weekend

If you ever wanted to go out and test your luck with a rod and reel the coming weekend is something you may want to take advantage of.

This coming weekend - July 10th and July 11th - is Free Fishing Weekend.

Free Fishing Weekend is where anyone is allowed to go sports fishing, in public waters open to fishing, without having to purchase a Saskatchewan fishing license. Anglers will have to follow all catch limit and size regulations remain in effect.

"I am always amazed at the diverse angling opportunities we have here in Saskatchewan," Environment Minister Warren Kaeding said in a release.

"Whether it's largemouth bass at Boundary Dam or catfish in the Qu'Appelle River system or any of the many world-class fishing opportunities we have in our northern waterbodies, Free Fishing Weekend gives people the chance to try something new, enjoy time with family and friends, and maybe even explore the province. It is a good weekend to create some memories and enjoy the beauty of what our lakes, streams and rivers have to offer,” Kaeding said in the statement.

It should be noted that if anglers will be taking their catch outside of Saskatchewan they will need to purchase a Saskatchewan fishing license to do so.

Free Fishing Weekend started in 1989 and serves to increase public awareness about the rich and diverse angling opportunities available in the province.

Anglers are also reminded that despite being an outdoor activity and the Province set to relax the COVID - 19 regulations on July 11th all anglers are required to follow all COVID-19 public health orders.
