Rhino’s Ramblings - No Cash Please

By Robert Thomas Opinion - Commentary

“If you’re paying with cash you’re going to have to go through the other line,. This line is card only,” I was told by a Walmart clerk at 9:45 on Saturday evening.

For me, I didn’t seem like a big thing until I saw what was ahead of me in the cash only line.

Cartloads of electronics and food ahead of me worth well over $1,000 in cash.and how my few minutes in the store was easily going to be until Walmart closed.

I stopped at Walmart to buy a tube of Polysporin. I have to prevent infection in my legs because of edema.

Yes I have a heart problems. In fact major ones that could easily kill me.

I take dozens of pills to try and stay alive and hopefully get better.

It’s why - no matter how much I wanted I couldn’t walk out I needed that Polysporin.

Although not infected an antibiotic cream like Polysporin helps with Edema

So I sat in the Walmart cash line and watched as only three people used the card only line during this time. All with small orders.

I was never offered the opportunity to take my three items - Polysporin, bacon and a chocolate bar - through the card only line.

So you just suck things up. Knowing it’s only 15 more minutes of pain until you get access to the cream.

I wasn’t looking for special treatment just common sense.

If I didn’t need it I would have walked out.

During this time I got a new appreciation about how common sense has seemingly disappeared and once I paid for the cream I complained and said I was no longer a Walmart customer.

The monthly and sometimes twice monthly grocery orders are no longer coming for me. I’ve had enough and I’ll take my business elsewhere.

If you can’t find common sense at 9:45 PM when you’re certainly anybody in the store, how do you expect to find common sense during a busy afternoon when you’re filling your grocery order?

You simply can’t trust them in my opinion.

What people might do when it comes to things like this happening to them is their own decision.

As for me there are other places to shop locally or online I’m more than willing to patronize.
