Toilers Senior Girls Outmuscled By PA Carleton

It wasn’t the best of times but it also wasn’t the worst of times for the young Peacock Toilers senior girls basketball team as they took PA Carleton Crusaders on Friday evening.

The Toilers found themselves out manhandled and the ball stripped on numerous occasions as a bigger and more aggressive Carleton team fought hard for the win.

Despite hanging in there the best that they could the Toilers found themselves on the losing end of a 72 - 25 final score.

“I thought it was a good game for us to learn. We knew Carleton was going to come out strong. I think we took the opportunities to break their press. We had some turnovers we are going to fix the next time we see them,” Toilers head coach Brendan Fedoski said.

Carleton was aggressive in their play taking advantage of the backboards. Fedoski said it was also a learning experience.

“It’s something we’re focussing on throughout the season, rebounding and boxing out,” he said, adding “they definitely have some size on us but it definitely does not mean we can’t do our job either.”

Asked if Carleton was just “meaner” than the Toilers he chuckled admitting PA was a more aggressive team.

“They have a lot more aggressiveness. That’s something we are also working on too.”

A young team still learning and physically smaller can make it tough against bigger teams. The Toilers currently have six grade 10 players.

“We are just looking to get experience and get better.”

This is the inaugural season for Peacock where both senior girls and senior boys play together at the same venue.

Fedoski said it was great to have both senior girls and senior boys play at the same tournament.

The four team two day round robin tournament continues tomorrow at Peacock Collegiate gym.

The senior boys play at 10 am and 2 pm.

The senior girls play at 11:45 am and 3:45 pm.

Admission for the entire day is $5.
