Spirits Remain Undefeated In City League
The question was can they be beaten? Or is tonight the night?
It’s a question or rather a riddle the Peacock Toilers senior girls volleyball team hoped to crack.
But for the Vanier Spirits they continued to fly high going on to defeat the Toilers 3 - 1 in sets.
The set scores for the Spirits were 25 - 23, 23 - 25, 25 - 14 and 25 - 17.
The win gives the Spirits a perfect 8 - 0 record. The Toilers move to 4 - 3 and third place.
“It was a really good night. We knew coming in it was going to be a good game. Peacock is an awesome team…we knew it was going to be tough. We came in with a lot of drive and a lot of grit,” Spirits head coach Aly Bell said.
Bell pointed out how the Spirits may have lost one set but it was not without them battling back from a deep deficit to challenge for the win.
“Yeah I’m super happy with tonight,” Bell said.
“That was a tough one to watch,” she said about a lengthy rally that started with a major dig by the Toilers and ended up giving them the second set.
At the present time the Spirits are looking towards finishing off the three games left in the city league and then the semi-finals.
Bell said she was 50-50 when it came to worrying about success borne complacency.
“We haven’t (been beaten) for a very long time (in the city league). Could Peacock do it? Absolutely Peacock could do it.”
Second place Cornerstone Christian School is to be kept in mind but Bell said the Dlirits did beat them without issue when they met.
The team needs to work on its defence and passing to get better she said.
