Gunther Honoured For Years Of Service

Over 50 years of football officiating was honoured between two high school football games on Friday evening.

Barry Gunther received an award and was honored by players, fans and officials alike.

Gunther was described as not only someone who gave as an official in Moose Jaw but also the province. He was instrumental in development of the game throughout Canadian football.

He was instrumental in the teaching and evaluation of many of the active football officials in Moose Jaw.

In 1998 Football Saskatchewan and the Saskatchewan Roughriders recognized Gunther with an award for his lifetime development of amateur football in Saskatchewan.

Gunther was also part of the first football officiating in Saskatoon and was co-founder of the Saskatoon Football Officials Association.

He was instrumental in setting up the Moose Jaw Association as both an official and president.
