Lions Claw Bulldogs

After taking a good mauling by the Lions in last weekend’s meet up the Bulldogs were looking to hold their own in this weekends U14,rematch.

Unfortunately for the Bulldogs the Lions seemed to have sharpened their claws in practice over the past week making it tougher to win.

After seemingly hanging in there for the first quarter the Bulldogs faded losing 52 - 13 to the Lions.

Asher Magnus - who plays line backer and wide receiver for the Lions - said Saturday was a good outing for himself and the team as a whole.

“I think it was good. I think at the start of the game the defence could have played harder,” Magnus said.

“I think I played a good game. I think I played hard but there is also room for me to improve to,” he said.

Magnus had many key plays as he had the ball tossed to him where her got to the outside and wracked up some dubdtantial yards rushing at key times in the game.

“I feel pretty good about that.”

Lions head coach Kellyn Bollinger had nothing to do it kind words and respect for the Bulldogs.

“I think the Bulldogs came out to play today. They were super tough. We bounced back in the game and we had a huge fourth quarter. We had a little bit of adversity but we battled back and finished the game strong,” Bollinger said.

Asked about the play of Asher Magnus he said the running back had a good game.

“He is very gifted when it comes to his speed and he is very fast when he gets to the outside…he was able to score some very big plays for us in the second half against the other team. He has been doing it all season,” he said.

Magnus was just one of many key players on the talent rich Lions that was clicking on Saturday.

“We had our struggles through our first part of the game but like I said we finished really strong. We kept on working and nobody gave up and we got the win,” he said summarizing the game.

Bollinger said he wasn’t surprised on how fast the Bulldogs were on to the Lions.

“We played them back to back. We played them last week. Every time you have these back to back games the team that loses the first game is going to be hungry. They came out and were really really hungry today,” he said.

A big factor in the Lions’ victory is they got some key blocks and were able to move the ball.

“We had some key blocks to get some of those big runs.”

Discipline was a problem at times for the Lions with a big play coming back due to a penalty.

“We need to make sure we’re playing smart out there as well.”

Due to the stacked nature of the schedule we did not have a chance to track down a Bulldogs’ spokesperson for comment.
