Questions Asked And Answered About The Sioux Bridge

Editor’s Note - This is a unique story and it has to deal with the condition of the Sioux Bridge that is in Wakamow Park.

The uniqueness is where the story originated from and who brought it to MJ Independent’s attention. The story took observation over two years and it came from the late Timothy Robinson.

The story includes Tim’s video and then the City’s written response to a series of questions Tim helped raise.

Although he had passed away the City of Moose Jaw responded to a series of questions Timothy Robinson raised. They were aware who made the video featured in this story.

In a written response the City responded the Sioux Bridge was built in 1912 and it is 107 years old and still functional.

Due to the age and condition of the bridge the load weight was recently reduced from 10 tonnes to 5 tonnes.

“The Sioux Bridge is inspected every year, with reactive maintenance performed where needed. We are currently reviewing repair options for 2019,” the City responded going on to add “The bridge is owned by the City of Moose Jaw and there is no funding to replace the bridge in the five-year Capital Budget due to other bridge priorities.”

It needs to be noted repair and or replacement to the City’s bridges is one item emphasized by the Engineering Department at budget time and how the repair and replacement is going to be a costly affair. In the past few years a bridge has been replaced on the Manitoba Expressway as well as one last year on the One Ways in the SE section of the City.
